In 2015 my husband died a suffering death from lung cancer. I vowed to quit smoking cigarettes… It has taken many failures, but today I do not smoke cigarettes. I used vaping to quit smoking.
Vaping has been very much in the limelight recently and it concerns me deeply. You see, much of the information out there is fake, misleading and malicious. I’m not going to say that “big tobacco” has created a conspiracy, because my dad taught me that every lie has a thread of truth. Instead, I have some facts…..
FACT Checking
I have searched high an low for just one person, anywhere who became ill from vaping ONLY Nicotine products which were professionally made. None, I have found none! I have found however, that all of the reported cases of lung disease allegedly connected to vaping vaped CBD, THC and/or other ingredients such as caffeine.
I am aware that Diacetyl which is a flavoring is a very dangerous thing. However, much has been done already to make it’s use known by way of warning and discontinued in most cases. This is the popcorn lung reports from a few years back. The new reports are not this, they are something different. Different symptoms and again I cannot find a single case where the illness was reported and they vaped ONLY Nicotine products.
Some Resources
I know that many people don’t know recommended ways to vape safely, so I have my personal ones below for you.
- Always wash your gear thoroughly, especially so if you were sick whilst vaping that clip.
- Never use your coils past their expected life. If you burn one, even a little bit, pitch it wash and start over. As a personal rule I never vape more than 100ML through a coil.
- Never vape flavors with Diacetyl and avoid menthols in particular. Did you know that menthol cigarettes crystallize in your lungs too?
- Vape as little Nicotine as possible.
- Use respected brands of everything.
- Do not share your vape… Would you share your toothbrush?
- If a flavor, setup or type of vape makes you cough, don’t use it.
- Keep your e-juice secured away from reach of children, pets etc. Without your level of Nicotine tolerance, these are dangerous enough to kill them.
- If you have issues with liquids containing PG (Propylene Glycol), then opt for 100% VG (Vegetable Glycerin) liquids.
- Vaping, like cigarettes can cause dehydration, so drink water and stay hydrated.
I am personally going to continue vaping until I kick my Nicotine habit caused by many years of smoking cigarettes. I am vaping 1.5MG… Almost there! I tried everything to quit smoking, vaping was right for me. I highly recommend you contact your local health department, go to their class and get their assessment. The information they provided me about what kind of smoker I am was invaluable.
