Four children who went missing Sunday 02/02/2020 during a blizzard in rural Alaska were found Monday alive and safe. These children are aged 2, 7 , 8 and 14 years old. How did they survive?

I’ll tell you how, they were taught, trained and empowered by the adults in their lives. They worked together as a team and dug a 4 foot hole, climbed in and kept the smallest child in their center to protect 2 year old Trey.

Alaska State Troopers received a report Sunday at 6:25 p.m. local time that the children hadn’t returned from a snow-machine ride near the remote, rural village of Nunam Iqua. Troopers were quickly alerted because of wind gusts as high as 60 mph, and wind chills as low as 45 below zero. These conditions can cause frostbite on exposed skin in under 10 minutes…. Yet, these tough AND smart children prevailed.

I realize it’s a difficult thing to teach our children to survive, but also to work together and believe in themselves. However, these parents, have done the “hard job” and these children are alive today because they took the time with their children instead of sitting them in front of a screen. I salute the parents of Christopher, Frank, Ethan, and Trey you are extraordinary parents.

Have you taught you children to survive? Empowered them to make decisions and act? Get on it… You never know when they will need these skills.
