Facebook / Meta are creeping into ALL aspects of our lives. It’s completely improper that schools, municipalities & other public serving agencies use this to deliver “important information”.

Why is it improper? Well, safety is a genuine concern and Meta’s data collection and privacy are a HUGE concern.

“Meta collects vast amounts of information about your activity both on and off their platforms, including your browsing history via embedded tracking tools like the Meta pixel on other websites.”

How about an “important message” from your local government letting you know the water needs boiled before use? Posted ONLY on Facebook. In order to get this VERY IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT you must:

Brave all the ads – Meta profits from this “public service announcement” with water softener ads. Government entities SHOULD NOT use Facebook in this fashion, it’s improper

ExposureThis list will blow your mind! In fact it’s obscene! Such as the content you view or interact with, the features you use, the actions you take (like mouse movements to distinguish humans from bots), and the time, frequency, and duration of your activities.

Facebook has already has been “involved in significant data breaches (e.g., Cambridge Analytica), and government agencies have found that its data practices can leave individuals vulnerable to identity theft and other harms.”

Accessibility: Facebook is not an accessible platform for delivering PDFs. This pisses me off so badly. The school, police or agency will put out some important announcement in a PDF upload post. They do this to PROTECT THEMSELVES FROM FACEBOOK potentially altering the content. Hmmmm, the actual agencies already know they need protected from Facebook! and….. the PDF cannot be made large enough to read on Facebook. So download it right? Nope, downloaded PDFs off of Facebook have been SMUSHED and can no longer be read at 100% of their size.

These pages your local schools, police & government agencies post on CANNOT be viewed without logging most of the time. Additionally, due to algorithm issues, accessibility gaps (not everyone uses FB), misinformation risks, and legal First Amendment issues with managing comments.

Make some noise, STOP the improper use of Facebook/Meta in your area. I’m not saying they cannot use it, ever. I’m saying it’s improper to ONLY use Facebook to deliver important information, some things are too important for just Facebook & no one should have their privacy & digital welfare in danger to receive said “important information”.

How on earth can we trust Meta / Facebook after just what we know they have done? Imagine seeing all the hidden little acts of control, invasion, privacy mismanagement, selling data to ruin elections, the covid coverups & the lies without the rose colored Facebook glasses!
