Don’t we have laws to protect animals and well … people?

Petland has been doing battle with the Humane Society of the United States since 2009. The HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) has documented puppy mill buying, terrible living & shipping conditions and bacteria transmitted by sick puppies to other puppies due to overcrowding AND people (customers and employees).

HSUS has been critical of Petland for years. In 2008, the organization began an eight-month investigation into the chain store and found it was funneling sick and injured dogs from puppy mills to unknowing customers. The following year, some HSUS members filed a class-action suit against the pet company. HSUS’s investigation was part an Animal Planet show about Petland in 2010. This year, HSUS visited a number of Petland stores in Georgia and found they were buying from some of the most notorious puppy mills in the nation, adds Summers. (HSUS calls those puppy mills “A Horrible Hundred:100 Problem Puppy Mills.”)

The “bug” or germ is called campylobacter. This is a well documented problem for Petland dating way back. Yet, today in this “awakened” society it still persists and people still buy animals from them.

December 2019 CDC ties Petland to outbreaks of superbug illnesses in 13 states

In previous years, the CDC has linked more than 118 cases of human campylobacter bacterial infections to contact with Petland puppies, which resulted in a number of people being hospitalized.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported today that four people have been hospitalized after being infected with a strain of campylobacter that’s resistant to multiple drugs. “Many of the cases had contact with puppies or were employees at pet stores, including Petland,” the CDC concluded, after its investigations linked 12 of those sickened with the national pet store chain that still sells dogs sourced from puppy mills. Five of the affected individuals were Petland employees.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 consumer investigator Jim Strickland has confirmed a Gwinnett teenager is the latest victim of a dangerous germ transmitted by a puppy from a Petland pet store.

The teenager, who worked at the Mall of Georgia Petland store for a month, was rushed to a hospital with a fever near 105.

“Essentially, it felt like you were dying,” said Katie Singleton, 16.

What in the hell are we doing? Why, how can this STILL be happening? Perhaps we aren’t as enlightened as the news would have you believe. What is all this talk of rights for animals when this is still happening?

DO NOT BUY ANIMALS FROM PETLAND

We the people have the power to stop this. Tell everyone. Companies with NO SALES cannot survive. Employees who would be out of a job will at least survive for God’s sake. Use your heads, BOYCOTT PETLAND NOW! Share this, get the word out there!

In case you’re not convinced read these candid reviews from employees on Glassdoor. Read about the Humane Society’s undercover investigation in 2018 or this one in 2019. If we continue to shop at Petland and do not stand up for these animals, then we are just greedy animals ourselves with far less compassion than any dog ever.
