First off I have a gay son and a gay daughter so bash somewhere else. Why on earth would the chief judge of Michigan’s 63rd District Court, Judge Sara Smolenski think that she or anyone else can change church doctrine?

Smolenski, 62, said that the Rev. Scott Nolan, the priest at St. Stephen for approximately three years, called her on November 23 and told her, “‘It was good to see you in church on Sunday. Because you and Linda are married in the state of Michigan, I’d like you to respect the church and not come to communion.'”

I am Catholic, but that matters none…. The church has rules, if you don’t like them you can leave or find some other church. Since the Catholic church and the bible consider homosexuality a mortal sin. You cannot expect to willfully and openly break the rules and remain in the same standing within any institution, including the church.

A mortal sin is any sin whose matter is grave and which has been committed willfully and with knowledge of its seriousness. Grave matter includes, but is not limited to, murder, receiving or participating in an abortion, homosexual acts, having sexual intercourse outside of marriage or in an invalid marriage, and deliberately engaging in impure thoughts (Matt. 5:28–29). Scripture contains lists of mortal sins (for example, 1 Cor. 6:9–10 and Gal. 5:19–21).

I am NOT saying I agree with any of this, I am merely pointing out that since Judge Sara Smolenski is in NO WAY forced to attend any church, including St. Stephens she has NO RIGHT to demand anything from the Catholic church. If you don’t like the rules of the institution…. Find another more suited to your needs. You cannot force any institution to abandon their own beliefs and support yours. You can certainly advocate and request change within the institution, but if the decision is not in your favor you have NO RIGHT to sue them. For God’s sake this is a JUDGE! Grow up.

I support their right to be married as a legal term, but the Catholic church clearly and historically does not accept gay marriage and they don’t have to change to suit the needs of anyone. This is what is wrong with our society… Entitlement and forcing beliefs of people and institutions.

Denying communion to someone who under the rules of Eucharist clearly should be denied is not wrong. If the judge chooses to participate in the church, then she accepts the rules as well…. PERIOD.
