So I wrote yesterday about the Police Chief Brian Hornaday in Herington, Kansas who posted the following on Facebook after receiving report of the incident from a still unnamed officer.

I wrote of my concerns for this chief’s unprofessional social media posting of an unproven and now admittedly unfounded incident.

A Herington Police Officer is no longer employed after admitting he “fabricated” a story a McDonald’s employee wrote an expletive on his coffee cup over the weekend.

Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday confirmed in a news conference the officer resigned from the agency, calling it a “black-eye on the law enforcement community.”

“McDonald’s and its employees did not have anything whatsoever to do with this incident. This was completely and solely fabricated by a Harrington police officer who is no longer employed with our agency,” said Hornaday.

After initially standing by his story, Hornaday said the officer has since told him the note was “meant to be a joke.”

Facebook users on the Geary County Sheriff’s Department’s page are continuing on with comments like:

I was a cop for 25 yrs and I have never seen nor would I ever expect to see one law enforcement agency get involved in an issue like this involving another agency. To say you don’t know the whole story is to suggest subliminal that the police officer may be lying.

Shame on you Sheriff!

they won’t they won’t even release the cops name. They always protect there own and never hold them accountable and then they wonder why people hate em and don’t trust them. Plus even if it was real, you’re a cop can’t handle name calling find another profession. Weak ass pigs I can’t believe this is getting so much attention, how much did this investigation cost? Make the pig pay for it and the for the business lost for McDonald’s and all his cases now need to be looked at again

Well this statement didn’t age well.

Really cool to see cops out here even lying about coffee cup insults. If they lie about this and it’s not even worth the energy, what are they lying about that matters?

I hope he’s happy making it EVEN HARDER for people to trust cops, what a bozo.

I am glad that the situation, while still very active seems civil. Does this police chief realize that this could have just as easily ended in rioting in the very community he is charged to protect an serve? He appears to have deleted his Facebook account…. Probably for the best as he lacks the maturity to comment in the public eye.
