I spent a great deal of time trying to turn off the Amazon ads for TVs, exercise equipment and assorted crap. I found that Amazon does not respond in their user forums and is willfully pushing ads through the platform with no clear way of disabling them. This really burns me up since the echo show sits on my desk and ALL I want to see is my picture show and weather. This is exactly how my settings are set….. But the ads persisted.
Finally, I figured it out. I saw the ad for exercise equipment featuring the girl holding a 10 pound medicine ball. I was MAD, so I pushed the little information circle icon in the lower right to complain and behold the option to hide this content!
Then later on I saw a Fire TV ad, which had no information icon, but 3 vertical dots instead…. Boom same thing, “Hide Content”.
In fairness, I’m not sure is this is a lasting solution that will hide new ads, but since Amazon isn’t talking… This is what we have to work with.
It should be illegal for Amazon to push ads on my own device, on my own network with not clear way to disable them. Certainly the e-commerce giant has enough money to do whatever the hell they want. [SIGH]
